ADCC West European Open 2024
2024.09.14 – Ulm, DE
My First ADCC Open. Now that I really think about it, I have already competed internationally as a white belt. Luckily, most competitions take place on Saturdays, so I usually only had to take Friday off work. This time, there were three of us from our team: Alessia, Willi and me.
My weight category was -60 kg, and the evening before the competition, I was actually afraid to eat because I was worried that I might be too heavy the next morning. Since we arrived a little late by car, the weigh-in was only possible the next morning. That definitely didn’t make me feel any more relaxed.
It was my first ADCC Open, and it was No-Gi only, as is standard for ADCC. The competition took place in Germany, more precisely in Ulm. Our plan was pretty simple: drive to Ulm on Friday afternoon, compete on Saturday, and drive back home in the evening. Once again, one thing was confirmed: the atmosphere in the venue is incredibly tense. One thing that makes ADCC competitions special is the warm-up area. You can already see your potential opponents there before your fight. Suddenly, you are standing right next to them, thinking: Maybe I’ll be fighting this woman in a few minutes. So my goal is basically to avoid getting too close to my potential opponents during the warm-up.
But in the end, I didn’t have to worry about that too much. Two fights. Two wins. And I won both fights with what has by now become my favorite submission: the armbar.

Mein erstes ADCC Open.
